Fatal police shooting in South Brisbane under investigation
The circumstances that led to police shooting a man dead outside The Greek Club in South Brisbane yesterday are now under investigation.
Officers were first called to a restaurant on Fish Lane around 2pm over reports of a man hiding in the ceiling.
He left the scene before police arrived, but a man matching his description was seen walking on Edmonstone Street.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said when a police van pulled up alongside the man, attempted to get into the back of the vehicle.
“At that time, he was confronted by the officer who had alighted from the driver’s side,” Massingham said.
“The male rushed at the officer in an aggressive manner, the officer saw that he was armed with a 30-centimetre metal rod with a handle attached.”
Officers tried to use a taser to subdue the man before three shots were fired at the man, who then died at the scene.
