Israel Folau reaches settlement with Rugby Australia
Rugby Australia has reached a settlement with Israel Folau over his sacking for a social media post.
Folau was seeking $14 million in compensation, claiming he was wrongfully dismissed by Rugby Australia after he posted on Instagram that “homosexuals” are going to “hell”.
A statement released by Rugby Australia says the details of the settlement will remain confidential.

In the statement, Rugby Australia “acknowledges and apologises for any hurt or harm caused to the Folaus”.
Folau also extends his apologies, stating he “did not intend to hurt or harm the game of rugby”.
Australian Christian Lobby Managing Director Martyn Iles tells Ben Fordham the money crowdfunded for Folau’s legal cause will be refunded.
“We’ve now got some leftover money, of course. That will be returned to the donors, or they’ll have the option to have that returned to them, on a pro-rata basis.
“I think the fact that Rugby Australia apologised and downed their weapons is a big deal.”
