‘It’s as good as winning my first gold medal’: Dawn Fraser receives highest Queen’s Birthday honour
Swimming legend Dawn Fraser is one of 10 people receiving the highest award in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Fraser, who won four Olympic gold medals, is receiving the Companion of the Order of Australia.
The 80-year-old tells Steve Price the recognition means as much as her medals.
“I sat down to reflect for a moment on it and it’s as good as winning my first gold medal because my mum and dad were there.
“They’re not with me anymore but at least I know that they’re very proud.”
