‘I’ve got grave concerns’: Dangerous terrorist set to be released
One of Australia’s most notorious terrorists is set to be released next year among nine other offenders.
The Attorney-General Christian Porter has told parliament 10 of the 54 Australian terrorists convicted for terrorism offences are due to be released from prison next year.
Algerian-Australian Abdul Nacer Benbrika supported al-Qaeda and led two terror cells that plotted attacks in Melbourne and Sydney in 2004 and 2005.
Former Senior Investigator with the NSW Police Terrorist Investigations Squad Peter Moroney was involved in the squad which took down Benbrika.
He tells Ben Fordham he’s got “grave concerns” about Benbrika’s release.
“There’s been information filtering to me from those that are connected into the prison systems that he hasn’t moved away from his beliefs.
“I understand he’s also been knocked back twice for parole.”
