Former Australian major general Jim Molan became the new liberal senator for NSW on Monday.

Senator Molan tells Chris Smith he’s keeping defence and security at the top of his agenda.

“I will stick with the things I know about, defence and security is fairly obvious.

“I want to concentrate on two other things which is…what I can do for veterans and what I can for people of my generation.

“The backbone of most organisations is older people and we concentrate on youth and so we should. But we should never forget the people who got us where we are and the people who will carry us for some time to come.”

Senator Molan will make his first official speech next Wednesday.
