Josh Frydenberg reacts live to Same Sex Marriage Bill passing Upper House of Parliament
Energy and Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg tells 4BC’s Chris Smith he was “disappointed” a key amendment in the Same Sex Marriage Bill didn’t pass.
The amendment, introduced by Senator George Brandis, was designed to ensure religious practices weren’t disturbed by the new laws.
“The key point is that we do need to protect religious freedoms. The public expects us to do that.”
Despite the House of Representatives not sitting this week, the Minister expects the Bill to become law before the end of the year.
Mr Frydenberg has also called for “repeat offender” Labor Senator Sam Dastyari to be sacked.
“Bill Shorten can’t sustain his defense of Dastyari any longer. It’s time for him to go.”
