Two Ukrainian siblings have been reunited in Sydney after an airline mix-up left one alone in a refugee camp.

Anastasiia and Kyrylo were due to travel unaccompanied to Australia while their parents remained in Ukraine to fight Russian invaders.

But a miscommunication saw the pair separated in Poland’s Warsaw Chopin Airport with 12-year-old Anastasiia kept behind while nine-year-old Kyrylo boarded their flight to Australia.

Home Affairs Minister told Neil Breen fortunately, there was somewhat of a happy ending.

“They are reunited and I am so proud of the work that was done, particularly by the Australian Border Force,” she said.

“It’s a fantastic story and I think it just demonstrates that our government and the agencies we have are really focused on helping people whenever they can.”
