King Charles ‘saving’ Queen’s former title for Princess Charlotte

Princess Charlotte is set to be honoured with the new title of Duchess of Edinburgh.

Queen Elizabeth reportedly wished for her youngest son, Prince Edward, to inherit the title after her death but it appears the King has other plans.

A source has told the Mail Online that King Charles wants to keep the title in the direct line of succession by giving it to his granddaughter, who is currently third in line to the throne.

“Discussions are underway, but the favoured outcome for the King is that this title ought to go to Princess Charlotte.

“It would be a fitting way to remember the Queen – who, of course, had the title Duchess of Edinburgh – and a way for His Majesty to honour the line of succession.”

UK correspondent Adam Gilchrist told Laurel, Gary & Mark he doubts that Prince Edward would arc up over the change.

“You could certainly argue that coming from his mum, giving it to his grand-daughter, continues a line of succession more than shunting the title over to his brother,” he said.

“Slowly but surely, he’s making his own mark, isn’t he, King Charles.

“And I guess that’s what the Queen did; she didn’t come in with a big clean sweep and a fresh broom, she did things gently like her dad would’ve wanted her to have done.”
