Labor’s plan to dethrone the Lord Mayor
Jared Cassidy, the Deagon Ward Labor Councillor, joined Scott Emerson on 4BC Drive, rejecting the suggestion that he would run for Lord Mayor in 2024.
Jacob Cassidy said that he is not looking at running for Lord Mayorship but enjoys his role as Leader of the Opposition and holding the City Hall administration to account.
“My role as Opposition Leader is to hold the Lord Mayor to account, which we’ve been doing successfully. We’ve highlighted their shortcomings,” he said.
“We really feel that people living in the suburbs over the last two decades of having an LNP council in charge have been paying a lot more in rates but ultimately getting a lot less back.”
The Labor party hasn’t had someone pull on the mayoral robes in the Brisbane City Hall since 2003.
But in an article in the Brisbane Times, Cr Cassidy said he believes 5500 votes are all that stand between his party overthrowing lord mayor Adrian Schrinner’s administration.
“It is quite extraordinary and encouraging that we’re not even two years through Adrian Schrinner’s current term in council, and people are already talking about someone to challenge him,” Cr Cassidy suggested.
