Lidia Thorpe has quit the Greens.

The controversial Senator has announced she’ll be joining the crossbench in federal parliament.

Senator Thorpe says she wants to help lead the “black sovereignty” movement and felt she couldn’t do that properly while in the Greens.

4Bc political reporter Michael Pachi told Sofie Formica it comes as no surprise, with the Senator critical of the Voice to Parliament for some time.

“The Greens do back the Voice … but haven’t reached a formal position,” he said. “I’d be surprised if the Greens did not back an Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

“In the end, for Lidia Thorpe, that wasn’t enough for her; she thinks it needs to go a lot further.”

Press PLAY below to hear how this is expected to impact the PM’s messaging on the Voice

She was forced to resign as deputy leader of the Greens last year after she failed to disclose her relationship with a former bikie boss.
