They always say you should never meet your heroes but Peter Psaltis would at least like the opportunity.

For those not in the know, Psalty is a Liverpool FC diehard, particularly a fan of former player Steven Gerrard.

“I’ve done work for Liverpool before when they’ve toured here in Australia and I’ve always missed meeting Stevie G,” he said.

In a surprising turn of events, Psalty was told on the morning of Origin he’d be sitting next to Gerrard at Suncorp.

“When I was packing my stuff to take to Origin, I did sneak my little Steven Gerrard jersey in there with a permanent marker, just in case.

“I was excited and I couldn’t tell anyone!”

But at 7 o’clock, Psalty got some devastating news.

“He pulled the pin.”
