Left, right + down the middle: Where Qld’s MPs sit in Labor’s factions
With a state election on the way next year, Sofie Formica is looking at where Queensland’s high profile MPs sit on the ledger.
Sub-groups of MPs and officials in the same party, known as factions, exist in every major political party in Australia and work together to progress policies and shared interests.
Queensland Labor is no different, made up of the Left, Right and the centre Unity groupings.
Former Labor speaker John Mickel told Sofie Formica things can get fairly complicated when talking about the centrists.
“In Queensland, the Labor Unity grouping lines up with the Left, but nationally, the Labor Unity grouping lines up with the Right,” he said.
