Liberal colleagues weigh in on outgoing senator’s tirade against PM
Concetta Fierravanti-Wells’ scathing attack on Prime Minister Scott Morrison has been put down to the outgoing senator “lashing out” over her pre-selection loss.
Liberal Senator Fierravanti-Wells is not re-contesting the election after missing out on a winnable spot on the NSW Senate ticket.
She told parliament Scott Morrison wasn’t fit to be Prime Minister and labelled him a bully in what was an explosive tirade.
Finance Minister Simon Birmingham says he understood her disappointment.
“It’s a long-standing Liberal senator but one who did only just lose her Liberal party endorsement and pre-selection on the weekend,” he said on 4BC Drive.
“Connie has had 17 years of opportunity to serve in the nation’s parliament, thanks to the selection of the Liberal party.
“I get the disappointment, nobody likes losing, but that’s no reason to lash out.
“I would urge her instead to reflect more on the 17 years of opportunity she has had.”
