Liberal MP fights for accessible water for drought stricken farmers

Prime Minister Scott Morrison will head to drought-hit parts of western Queensland on his first official visit as Prime Minister.

Mr Morrison spent the weekend drawing up his new ministry, appointing Barnaby Joyce as special envoy for drought assistance and recovery.

Susan Ley has also been brought back into the fold as Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Territories.

She has been fighting to establish an alternative water source for our struggling farmers, arguing irrigators should be able to borrow environmental water so winter crops won’t perish.

The member for Farrer tells Alan Jones she’s looking forward to her new role which will focus on water policy.

“We have to get it right, and we have to put farmer sand farming families front and centre.”
