Liz Truss wins leadership contest to replace Boris Johnson as Britain’s PM
Liz Truss will replace Boris Johnson as Britain’s new Prime Minister after defeating Rishi Sunak in the Tory Party leadership election.
The 47-year-old defeated the former chancellor 81,326 votes to 60,399, winning 57 per cent of the vote.
She will travel to Balmoral in Scotland to be sworn in by the Queen as the United Kingdom’s 56th prime minister.
UK correspondent Adam Gilchrist told Laurel, Gary & Mark rumours that Ms Truss won’t meet the Queen face-to-face don’t appear to be true.
“The ceremony will still take place with shaking of hands and the official asking to form a government, and all that stuff,” he said. “That still has to happen.”
Ms Truss described the eight-week election campaign as “the longest job interview in history”.
