The state government remains tight-lipped over the rebuild of the Gabba ahead of the 2032 Olympics, with concerns growing about the future of East Brisbane State School.

There are concerns the school will be razed to make way for the $1 billion redevelopment.

Asked about it today, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she appreciates the community is anxious but wouldn’t be drawn on whether it would be moved.

“In relation to the school, I can understand that there are some preliminary concerns of parents,” she said.

“The education minister engaging with that school and there will be thorough consultation about if that school does need to move.”

South Brisbane MP Amy MacMahon said the community needs some certainty but the state government was “ignoring them”.

“From what we understand, firms have been approached, and they have been told they don’t need to consider the future of the school in their designs,” she told Neil Breen on Brisbane Live.

“Look, if this government is doing to go around bulldozing state schools, our community isn’t going to get the huge benefits that could come from the Olympics.”

She said the school community is furious and desperate for answers, and Minister Grace Grace is “missing in action” on the issue.
