Local QLD council’s plan to attract social housing development
Moreton Bay Regional Council has unveiled a plan to address the homelessness and rental affordability crisis in Queensland.
The council announced it would scrap development fees to attract development of social and affordable housing.
Mayor Peter Flannery says they have a few areas in mind.
“We are trying to encourage applicants social housing developers, that we’re happy to reimburse not only the application costs but also the infrastructure charges for the whole project that has relation to social and affordable housing, back to them.
“It makes their financial model … stack up a bit better and hopefully encourages development up in our area.”
