Lord Mayor puts an eyewatering figure on Brisbane’s ‘monumental’ waste problem
Brisbane is currently dealing with a ‘monumental’ and unprecedented amount of waste following the floods.
More than 22,000 tonnes of waste has already been cleared from the streets as residents clear out their homes.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner told Sofie Formica it’s the biggest recovery effort the city has ever seen.
“It’s hard to fathom and comprehend just how much waste is being generated at the moment – … it’s more than 2011 and it’s more than 1974.
“We are now collecting four times more waste per day than we would normally collect.”
He said it will take several weeks to finish the clean-up.
