Lord Mayor ropable over ‘koala railway’ stoush with Transport Minister

The gloves are off today as the Lord Mayor and Transport Minister engage in another stoush, this time over a proposed tunnel on the northside.
A proposal for the 11-kilometre tunnel, which would link Alderly to Bald Hills, was rejected because the state government is considering a surface-level rail line instead.
But Brisbane City Council argues any above-ground development in the relevant transport corridor would negatively impact surrounding housing developments and bushland.
“The days of bulldozing hectares of bushland to build motorways on the surface are over,” Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner told Sofie Formica.
“We’re simply saying, let’s look at those underground options. The state government’s saying ‘No, we’re looking at a surface rail line through this corridor of sensitive bushland’.”
Mr Schrinner said the state government was invited to take part in the planning but declined.
“Now, that was three years ago,” he continued. “We still haven’t seen any plans, or any evidence of any plans being done by the state government.”

What utter BS from a lazy 20 year LNP City Council out of ideas and integrity with this nonsense. Brisbane deserves a lot better.
