‘Major artery’ of Brisbane’s bikeway network reopens after weeks

Cyclists will again be able to make full use of the Bicentennial Bikeway from today.

The bikeway has reopened after recent flooding pushed The Drift restaurant wreckage onto the path, prompting a weeks-long clean-up process.

Bicycle Queensland Director of Advocacy Andrew Demack told Spencer Howson the closure was incredibly disruptive.

“One of the characteristics of our bikeway network is it’s kind of incomplete and there aren’t other options,” he said.

“If you close a road, there are other roads motorists can use.

“If you close a main bikeway, then literally there’s no other main bikeways to the city from the west.”
