Griffith University has emerged as a possible tenant to take over from Myer in the Brisbane CBD.

Myer has been the anchor tenant of the Myer Centre since it opened in 1988, occupying five levels and more than 28,000 square metres.

But the retail giant is set to leave its iconic site on Queen Street Mall after declining an offer from the centre’s owner to move into a smaller space.

Industry sources are saying Griffith University could take over the tenancy before looking for a larger, more permanent CBD address.

“This is one of the best ideas they’ve ever come up with,” Mark Hine said on 4BC Breakfast.
