Prostate cancer is overtaking breast cancer as the most common form of the disease in Australia.

Data released by the Institute of Health and Welfare estimates more than 24,000 Australian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year.

Former AFL footballer Mark Orval, known as ‘AngryDad’ on social media, revealed last year he had prostate cancer.

He had no symptoms when he was diagnosed.

“I am 15 months post-op now, two weeks ago I had my latest PSA results back through which is a really nerve-wracking time,” he told Peter Fegan filling in on 4BC Drive.

“I can say with some relief that they were actually zero and undetectable which is probably the best outcome at this point that you could imagine and want, so for me that was a really good milestone.”

He urged men to take charge of their health, and talk about it.

“It’s not just a physical battle, it’s a mental battle as well. The reality is, if you are doing something about it, and you get detected early, then the prognosis more often than not is pretty good.”
