Medevac laws repealed: Jacqui Lambie breaks down as she votes to ditch medevac
Jacqui Lambie has broken down in the Senate while revealing she will support the government’s move to repeal the medevac laws.
The independent Senator says she negotiated a deal with the government but insists it can’t be made public for national security reasons.
“I’m not being coy or silly when I say I genuinely can’t say what I proposed. I am being 100 per cent honest to you.
My hand is on my heart and I can stand here and say that I will be putting at risk Australia’s national security if I said anything else about this.”
The controversial legislation was introduced earlier this year when independent Kerryn Phelps managed to get the support of Labor, the Greens and other crossbenchers to bypass the government.
It has been much-maligned since, with claims many of those brought to Australia have then refused treatment.

Ray Hadley says it’s the right decision, arguing the legislation has been rorted from day one.
“Given we’ve got people here, none of the 180 in hospital, not one of them… using the system to get back here.
“Just disgraceful. No one had to be treated in Australia for the problems they have.”
