Mega Gabba rebuild plan tipped to reveal fate of heritage-listed school
The knockdown and rebuild of the Gabba stadium will go ahead under a plan to be publicly released within weeks.
The federal government’s refusal to commit to splitting the bill recently fuelled speculation that the project would fail to get off the ground.
But Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk yesterday confirmed the state government will press forward with the billion-dollar project.
Ms Palaszczuk said she expects the Commonwealth will honour a commitment made under the Morrison government to jointly fund Olympic projects.
Plans to be released in the coming weeks are expected to confirm the fate of the neighbouring East Brisbane State School.
Jess Millward: “It is heritage-listed [but] it looks like they’re going to have to go.”
Mark Hine: “Brick by brick, they will be moving it somewhere.”
Gary Clare: “Oh, actually moving it and rebuilding it?”
Mark Hine: “I have heard that. I don’t know, that’s not necessarily been revealed in the plans but I do hear whispers around the stadium.
“I’m there quite often during the football season.”
