The Coalition is rallying around a Queensland hopeful who allegedly provided false information to the Australian Electoral Commission.

The AEC is investigating allegations LNP candidate Vivian Lobo, who is running for the seat of Lilley, lied about his residential address.

Labor claimed Mr Lobo does not live at his registered address in Everton Park, but rather, at a Windsor home outside the seat of Lilley.

Neighbours of the Everton Park address say the home has been unoccupied for months.

Finance Minister Simon Birmingham insists Mr Lobo had always intended to move into to property but was held up by renovation delays.

Simon Birmingham: “I understand Mr Lobo was leasing a property in Everton Park, he fully intended to move in but delays in getting tradespeople or others-”

Neil Breen: “The person who rents it doesn’t get tradespeople.

“He’s rented that place to fudge it; it’s overgrown, it’s derelict, it’s empty and he’s been living at his place in Windsor with his electoral car parked out the front.

“Unless he sort of hangs around there for an hour during the day, then sleeps at his house in Windsor every night, the guy’s clearly fraudulently said where he lives.”

Simon Birmingham: “I understand it was rented with full intentions of moving in, there’s been delays in that regard.

“He’s made clear that he will cooperate with any enquiries in relation to these matters.

“But I think for all Queenslanders, this election is a choice that’s far bigger than those small issues in one electorate.”
