Neil Breen breaks down ‘scathing’ social housing report
Neil Breen says the Queensland government has been blasted in a “blistering” report into the state of social housing in the Sunshine State.
The report released by Auditor General Brendan Worrall overnight found the government has not been handling the social housing request register effectively, Neil Breen said.
It’s grown by 80 per cent in four years to 50,000 people.
61 per cent of people on the register are in very high need, although there are some social housing that remains empty.
“What stunned me in the report was they are not doing any audits or any modelling at all, the Department of Housing on the future needs or on the pressures that are going to be brought about by rising costs,” Neil said.
“Isn’t that your basic job?!”
