Neil Breen clashes with REIQ boss over price-gouging in QLD’s tight rental market

Neil Breen has clashed with the boss of the Real Estate Institute of Queensland in a heated exchange on south-east Queensland’s dire rental crisis.
The Brisbane Live host detailed a number of examples of price-gouging.
The chronic shortage of affordable rentals coupled with reports of renters being slugged with huge rent increases lead a frustrated Neil to question what more needs to be done.
CEO Antonia Mercorella said the situation in Queensland is unprecedented and “disturbing”.
But she said in most cases, property managers tried to advocate on behalf of good tenants.
“What I am here to tell you … is that in the majority of cases you will find that property managers are incredibly dedicated individuals who also hate the current rental market, who are also under enormous strain.”
But Neil hit back, saying he wasn’t interested in the sob stories of property managers.
