After a 40-year career in the media, journalist Lane Calcutt is hanging up his microphone for a new chapter.

He began his career as a cadet journalist at The Telegraph.

For 35 years, he’s been in the Brisbane newsroom and abroad, covering major news stories for Nine, natural disasters, as well as defining local events.

He’s been a familiar voice, and a veteran of the news landscape in Brisbane.

He’s covered very state election since 1983.

As for what stands out in terms of the stories he’s covered, the one that hits home the most is the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Because it just affected everybody in Australia,” he told his Nine News colleague Peter Fegan, filling in on Brisbane Live.

“I remember the images when the government shut down the economy, essentially shut down society, the images of those people lined up around blocks around employment offices, it really struck home how hard it was going to be, and how long it was going to take to recover.”
