‘Not a great week’: Ben Fordham at centre of Prime Minister’s political bungle
The Prime Minister is feeling the heat after being accused of misleading parliament while defending embattled Minister Angus Taylor.
There are calls for Angus Taylor to stand down as NSW Police investigate the potential doctoring of City of Sydney council documents.
The Prime Minister first came under fire over a phone call made to Police Commissioner Mick Fuller about the investigation.
Now he’s been forced to backtrack after he misattributed a quote from Ben Fordham to a Victorian police detective in parliament.
Although he acknowledged the mistake, the Opposition has used the gaffe to continuously attack Scott Morrison.
“It has not been a great week for the PM,” says Ben Fordham. “Anger is red hot in the bush over the government’s response to the drought, and in Canberra he’s feeling the heat on several fronts.”
Political editor at The Australian Dennis Shanahan says the Prime Minister is under pressure and is making mistakes he wouldn’t normally make.
