Some residents in the Logan region have complained of discoloured or tap water with a noticeably different taste or smell.

The community was notified by flyers that a new disinfectant was to be administered, as part of essential maintenance on the water supply network that started in May.

Residents were advised of a “slight change in the taste, odour and/or appearance of water”.

Logan City Council’s deputy mayor Jon Raven says some residents will notice it more than others.

“There has been [water discolouration] some residents have picked it up, the staff do everything they can to minimise it,” he told Neil Breen on Brisbane Live.

Logan Water advised residents of the temporary changes, while the essential works are undertaken.

“This work is necessary to keep the water network clean and to continue to meet the requirements of the
Australian Drinking Water Guidelines,” the notice reads.

In a statement, Logan council said residents were notified via mail of the changes.

“Council is undertaking activities to minimise the impact to residents, including network flushing,” a spokesperson said.

“Over the past 10 weeks, council has conducted more than 5000 tests within the project area.

“All results are well within the Australian guidelines and the water remains safe for consumption.”
