The NSW government has pledged its support for a royal commission into veteran suicides.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has met with the mothers of six veterans who died by suicide, at a Daily Telegraph Save Our Heroes Summit.

Mr Morrison did not rule out a royal commission in the summit today.

The Department of Veteran Affairs cannot account for how many veterans have taken their own lives but the mothers of these servicemen and women say it’s unacceptable.

Julie-Anne Finney’s son Dave spent two decades serving in the Australian Navy.

But in February, he lost his battle with PTSD, after being told he had to wait six months to see a psychiatrist.

She tells Ben Fordham she was pleased to hear the NSW government would back a royal commission.

“I was there when it was announced and couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

“The time is now… you cannot make initiatives without knowing all the facts and you cant know all the facts without a royal commission.”
