Opponents to the Voice launch official ‘no’ campaign
Opponents to an Indigenous Voice to parliament have officially launched their campaign.
The committee was formed to run the “no” case against the Voice and have launched the “recognise a better way” campaign.
It will support a preamble in the constitution acknowledging European occupation.
NT Senator Jacinta Price and Warren Mundine are among those on the committee.
During a speech in Melbourne, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese urged the arts sector to back the Voice.
“Later this year, Australians will have the choice of voting yes in a referendum that will advance reconciliation that is about just two things; recognition and consultation,” he said.
“Nothing more but absolutely nothing less than showing respect for the fact that we share this continent with the oldest continuous culture on earth and that that should be a source of great pride for all of us.
“But it’s also about how the world sees Australia as well, whether we are a mature nation that is able to reconcile and move forward.”
Neil Breen summed up an opinion piece printed in The Australian newspaper, on the campaign to vote against the policy.
