Organ recipient gives back by opening dessert bar with a twist

An inspirational organ recipient is celebrating the anniversary of her transplant by opening a dessert bar fully staffed by other transplant recipients and people with chronic illnesses.

Patricia Scheetz had been suffering from diabetes her whole life when she found out she needed a double transplant at the age of 28.

She was on the waiting list for nine months before receiving the call telling her a donor had finally been found.

Now, eight years later, she’s decided to give back by opening up a pop-up dessert bar that’s staffed exclusively by people who often find it hard to hold down a stable job due to their health.

Patricia tells Chris Smith The Sweetest Gift will open its doors tonight, with a focus on providing employment for those who need it most.

“It’s for people who sort of struggle to maintain stable employment because of their health needs.

“These people generally fall outside Centrelink’s support, sadly, so they’re kind of left to be supported by their loved ones.

“We’re so excited to make this next big, big step into what we hope is a big thing for us and a lot of people who are out there that we can help.”
