Outback town celebrates major anniversary in wrong year
A small town in outback Queensland has been left red-faced after missing its own 150 year anniversary by three years.
Murweh Shire Council Mayor Annie Liston tells Michael McLaren how Charleville missed the special occasion in 2015.
“We had a couple of historians that were researching the history of Charleville, and they told us it was 2018 and we believed them. So that’s how it happened.
“We’ll still celebrate. We’ll have to do something around the 153rd.
We had plans all for 2018, we’d been working on that since about 2016, to find out that it’s already gone.
“Who cares… we don’t really need an excuse for a party.”
