Pat Cummins caps finest year of his career, reflects on taking home the Allan Border Medal
Pat Cummins has been awarded the highest individual honour in Australian cricket, collecting the Allan Border Medal as Player of the Year.
The 25-year-old pace bowler has enjoyed a stellar 12 months, mostly injury free, taking 44 wickets and scoring two half-centuries.
He polled 156 votes, six ahead of Nathan Lyon and limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch.
Cummins tells Chris Smith it’s a unique experience to have won the medal.
“When you look back at all of the past winners they’re really some of the greatest of the game, so for me it’s all a bit weird to be honest, to be in their company.”
After a run of injuries, Cumins thought he’d never play for Australia again.
“I just always felt like I was a long way away.
“To get back, first of all, into the team and play consistent cricket, and to finally play as well as I would’ve liked, it’s been really pleasing.”
