Returning to the stage for a role in Mary Poppins, Patti Newton says she feels like the timing was perfect.

And being a part of the show in Brisbane, despite an unfortunate stint out with COVID-19, she has felt like it’s been a wonderful time with her extended family.

She told Greg Cary, filling in on 4BC Afternoons, that Christmas last year was a “bit of a blur” for the Newtons.

But this year, she’s felt Bert’s presence with her.

“This year, I thought well, we are in Queensland, Bert loved Queensland … and so I thought this is a bit of an omen.

“I’ve got the whole family up here with me, we are having a great time.”

She revealed why it felt like coming home, playing The Bird Woman in Brisbane.

Being a part of the cast for Mary Poppins has been a wonderful experience.

“We are lovely together, Michael Castle runs a very good ship and he always has terrific people involved, right from the stage crew, to the stars of the show, everyone gets on so well,” she said.

“I know it sounds a bit cliche it’s really a pleasure to go in every night and do the show, love it.”
