Comedian Peter Helliar has been married for 15 years, and his new TV series is heavily inspired by his own experiences.

How to Stay Married explores the ups and downs all couples face.

And Peter says many of the issues raised in the series were inspired by events in his own life.

“There’s a lot of things in this show that’s autobiographical,” he tells Chris Smith.

“The seed of the idea [comes] from truth and then it kind of goes off to another area.

“I had a vasectomy last year so we deal with that in one of the episodes.”

Peter has also told the story about how he met his wife Bridget many years ago.

And it all started at Sydney Airport when he was too afraid to approach her…
