Clinton is joined by Mat McLachlan, War historian & founder of Australian Battlefield Tours, with today marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, France during WW2 – the largest seaborne attack in history. 

Codenamed Operation Neptune, the D-Day landings involved 7000 Allied warships, vessels and landing craft manned by over 195,000 naval personnel from eight allied countries, as well as an airborne attack, designed to simultaneously land Allied troops on five separate beachheads in Normandy.

This marked the beginning of Operation Overlord, the campaign to liberate Normandy from Nazi Germany. Some 3,300 Australians were involved in the landings – mostly in the air, but also at sea and on land.
