Audi A4 – in its latest guise a much-improved premium sedan.
More on the latest Audi A4 sedan updated last August now with some nice styling cues with a more muscular and sportier appearance in a body Audi claims has all new panels. I tested the sportier 35 TFSI S-line at $59,900, $1500 cheaper to the 40 TFSI it replaces. Power source a 2.0- litre four-cylinder turbo linked to a dual-clutch automatic. A 12V mild hybrid system is also paired with the power train said to deliver fuel savings of 0.3 litres per hundred kilometres. Audi claim fuel consumption on the combined city/country cycle at 6.1 L/100 however the best I could do over the week was 7.8L/100 with a fair amount of stop/start city driving.
A high point is build quality – top notch in every respect and typical of Audi – the sportier S-Line gets some nice touches like slots along the bonnet edge in a body that understated yet classy. Along with a five-star safety rating comes a good level of safety tech such as the latest autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. Step inside the Audi A4 and it has an air of sophistication – instrumentation a standout and programable in a cockpit with great ergonomics. Option prices on Audi can be hefty depending on what your after while warranty falls short at 3 years/unlimited kilometre.
