Better safeguards required to protect Aussies against cyber attacks

Phil O'Neil

Phil speaks with Professor Matthew Warren, Director of RMIT’s Centre for Cyber Security Research and Innovation, about the urgent need for stronger safeguards following a major cyber attack targeting Australian superannuation funds.

Around $500,000 was stolen and thousands of member accounts were breached.

Professor Warren stresses that weak authentication systems are to blame and calls for mandatory, non-optional multi-factor authentication for all customers, noting that current standards allow opt-outs that leave systems vulnerable.
