Brisbane City Council’s initiative to cut building costs by removing car parks
The Brisbane City Council’s Inner-City Affordability Initiative aims to make new homes in inner-city suburbs more affordable by removing mandatory minimum car parking requirements.
The council has said the initiative could reduce building costs by $100,000 per apartment per parking space.
Professor of Urban Management and Planning at Griffith University Paul Burton told Dean Miller on 4BC Afternoons, “My belief is, at the moment the market isn’t there to sell apartments that are going to be quite expensive because of land prices and construction costs without car parking spaces.”
