Cleanaway pleads guilty to odour nuisance at New Chum

Sofie Formica

Waste operator Cleanaway has pleaded guilty to seven offences and has been fined more than $600,000 in relation to odour nuisance at New Chum.

The court found that,  following the 2022 floods, a strong-smelling leachate was produced, and Cleanaway failed to take reasonable and practicable measures to stop the smell.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding told Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons, “It’s a step in the right direction. I appreciate the state government doing this.”
