‘Community does not feel safe’: Jewish event crashed by Pro-Palestinian protesters

Bill McDonald

Pro-Palestine protestors have made their presence felt at a private Jewish event in the Valley at the weekend.

Members of the Jewish community attended a private function hosted by the State Zionist Council of Queensland at The Wickham to celebrate the Jewish holiday Shavuot, where they were met with protesters.

Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies President Jason Steinberg told Bill McDonald on 4BC Mornings, “What the new low that was reached on Saturday night [told us] is that anti-Semitism is alive and well in Queensland, and our community does not feel safe.”

Former Greens Councillor Jonathan Sriranganathan defended the protest saying, “I think it is perfectly legitimate and acceptable for people to peacefully protest on a street outside a venue that is holding a Zionist event.”
