‘Difficult to form a movement’: Electoral funding reform could have consequences for independents

Bill McDonald

Gerard Rennick was elected as a member of the LNP and sat with the Liberal Party in parliament, until resigning from the party last year to sit as an independent with his own People First Party.

Gerard Rennick told Bill McDonald on 4BC Mornings, “My issue is with the cost of registration for someone, for an Australian to actually run.”

“So the registration cost for a person has increased from $1,000 to $2,000.”

“My concern is that politicians or aspiring politicians that want to fight for Australians who aren’t having their voice heard… can’t form a movement or it’s very difficult to form a movement without some decent funding, which people that are unknown don’t have access to,” Senator Rennick continued.
