Australia Post this week released a set of five postage stamps honouring Holden’s 73 year history in Australia. Why they have been released around 3 years after Holden produced its last car is interesting however with an estimated 1.6 million Holdens still on the road there is still a lot of sentiment for the brand. As Australia Post executive Nicole Sheffield put it “This stamp issue recognises the incredible impact that Holden had on the Australian cultural fabric.”

The $1.10 postage stamps feature “Australia’s own car, the 1948 48-215, the 1963 EH Premier, the 1968 HK Monaro, the 1971 HQ Kingswood Ute and the 2006 VE Commodore SS V.  In all, Holden built around 7.6 million cars – the company originally founded in 1856 as a saddler, moved into cars in 1908 and became a subsidiary of General Motors in 1931. At my first Holden release in 1981 it was proud of the fact it had 22,000 employees in Australia.
