FULL SHOW: 4BC Weekend Breakfast with Olympia Kwitowski, Saturday 23rd November 2024
On the show today: Olympia covers the headlines including how the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games could have the potential to transform Brisbane into one of the world’s most accessible cities – but Olympia asks: why do we need to wait 8 more years?
Gardening is back for another week, and sees Arno King return! Olympia & Arno discuss his recent trip to China, speaking as part of the annual Shenzen Bougainvillea Festival. He tells us about the beautiful displays he saw and the similarities between Shenzen and Brisbane.
Arno also answers your gardening questions! We learn how to de-mealy bug a Basil plant, how to deal with a Soursop tree’s prematurely falling fruit, and we hear some tips for how one listener can get her “lazy fiance” to mow the lawn!
PLUS Arno shares some gardening events to get along to today.
In the second hour; the ongoing deluge of rain has been frustrating for many, but for locals in Rocklea the threat of Stable Swamp Creek flooding is a pertinent issue. Delays in maintenance have heightened fears of another catastrophic season like the 2022 floods and progress on creek rehabilitation has stalled due to disputes over who should fund the necessary $800,000 clean-up. We hear from a Rocklea resident, Jo Clarke-Jones, about how this inaction has affected the community; as well as Moorooka Ward Councillor, Steve Griffiths, on what the government will be doing to tackle this serious issue.
Elsewhere, Christmas is just around the corner – and Tommerups Dairy Farm in the Scenic Rim has created a new ice cream with a Christmassy-twist! One of the owners, Kay Tommerup, joins to tell us more and also previews the upcoming Farm Gate to City Door Market at the Breakfast Creek Lifestyle Precinct, Newstead next Saturday – where you can grab this tasty treat and more!
PLUS: We hear from Ryan McCann of First National Cleveland for a weekly real estate update.
