FULL SHOW: Weekends with Carla Bignasca (Filling in for Peter Fegan) – Sunday, 22nd September 2024

Carla Bignasca

On the show: Carla is back to round out your weekend, including Queensland police officers who have been paid a staggering $72 million in just seven months, as the force grapples with burnout and soaring crime rates. We also hear more about how cheaper beer is shaping up to be a key Coalition election policy.

It’s been a big week politically. For the Sunday Breakdown, Carla is joined by Nines Chief Political Editor, Charles Croucher. From a tough week for the Government on the legislation passing front, to Albo’s stacked overseas itinerary as part of “World Summit Season” despite pledging to focus on domestic issues. Charles gives his take of the big issues.

Karen Jacobsen is a name that you may not be familiar with, but you’ve more than likely heard her voice before. Karen is the original Australian voice of Google Maps and Siri – Apple’s virtual assistant in their devices. She also happens to be a Queenslander! Karen joins Carla to tell us more about how she got the role and what else she gets up to in her life – including a vibrant musical career!

In Local issues today: Hemmant Equine’s HEART program is dedicated to providing affordable and inclusive access to horse orientated activities, all in order to promote the physical, emotional and social wellbeing of all young people of all ages and abilities. Co-director of HEART Renee Commins joins Carla to explain more about this program and what the horses also get out of it.

Elsewhere on the show: Local business owner Lola Bowden joins live in studio to talk about her Bulimba-based business, LoloPops Baby Gifts. Lola talks about her journey as a small business owner, from her beginnings during COVID to her networking project to connect more women in small business to each other. We also hear about a special photoshoot that LoloPops is doing in collaboration with movie/greeting cards giant Hallmark, to showcase intergenerational families.

NRMA Insurance Meteorologist Zac Segger tells us more about his work as part of NRMA’s Natural Perils team and NRMA Insurance’s wild weather track – an important tool for Queenslanders who face many different weather challenges.

PLUS: Nine News Sports Reporter Jacob Funk provides an extensive update on the weekend action, and we look ahead to the coming week with your long-range weather forecast.
