FULL SHOW: Weekends with Peter Fegan – LIVE from Ekka – Sunday, 11th August 2024

Luke Grant

On the show: Day 2 of Ekka and Feegs continues to get stuck into the action.

More Ekka characters stop by the 4BC stage. RNA Future Directions Committee member Shaun Sandilands who talks about the committee’s role in ensuring Ekka stays relevant and dynamic for years to come, the QLD Ambulance Service team on the ground and RNA councillor David Fagan talks about his work on Ekka’s ‘Education on Show’. We also hear a moving story from Pinks Donuts and Coffee matriarch Shayze Pink and her life on the road PLUS students from Caboolture High School and Nudgee College.

It’s been a big week in news, with Feegs covering the Queensland Police Union boss calling for a royal commission into mental health – following a spate of police shootings and growing fears that an “entire generation of officers” are being traumatised by health system failures.

It’s also been a big week politically. For the Sunday Breakdown, Feegs is joined by Nationals Leader David Littleproud. From Senator Murray Watts applying for extraordinary powers to ensure the CFMEU goes into administration and stops workers from striking, to an old clip of US Vice President Kamala Harris urging Americans to stay “woke”. David gives his insights into the big issues and also shares his favourite Ekka memories.

Elsewhere on the show: Actor, singer and social media influencer Sean Millis has had quite the year. After going viral on social media, releasing UK Charts Number 1 hit ‘Waiting on a Miracle’, and scoring a role in the latest Mad Max film – things seemed to take a turn with an onslaught of hate from online trolls and ongoing health issues due to a rare genetic disorder. Sean joins Feegs to tell us about his condition, how he deals with online haters and his hopes for more acting and singing opportunities.

In Local issues today: with increased back burning and warnings of a dry summer ahead; Feegs chats with the Rural Fire Service’s Chief Officer Ben Millington. Ben talks about the work that the RFS are doing to prepare for summer and what landowners and communities can do to be better prepared. Ben also explains the new ‘Respect It or Regret It’ ad campaign.

PLUS: 4BC Sports Report Sam Leckie provides an extensive update on the weekend action, and we look ahead to the coming week with your long-range weather forecast.
