FULL SHOW: Weekends with Peter Fegan – Saturday, 31st August 2024

Peter Fegan

On the show: Feegs covers the headlines to start your weekend, including convicted murderer Gerard Baden-Clay’s eligibility for parole in just three years time. Baden-Clay was convicted of the 2012 murder of his wife, Alison, and Feegs questions why is a life sentence not actually for life?
We also hear more about how Queenslanders have shouted former Deputy Premier Jackie Trad more than $300,000 in legal fees for her battle to suppress a Crime and Corruption Commission report; and how an awkward on-air gaffe by Nine’s Brad ‘Freddy’ Fittler while interviewing the Olympic medal-winning Fox Sisters has created a social media storm.

Feegs also covers the spate of road accidents on the Bruce Highway this week, and we hear from Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett who has been at ground zero at that fatal crash which has rocked the small town of Bororen.

Acting Assistant Police Commissioner Andrew Massingham joins for a weekly update on the latest local crime issues and statistics. AAC Massingham tells us more about a recent arrest in Goondiwindi and if he is yet to have a sit-down with newly appointed Cross Border Commissioner Ian Leavers. Andrew also provides an update on two officers injured in Beaudesert last night.

Aspire Retire Financial Services co-founder Olivia Maragna joins for Money Talks. Olivia tells us more about how almost 3 million Australians miss out on $5.1 billion in legal super entitlement, incoming cost-of-living support measures that will flow through over the next few days, and the benefits of salary sacrifice.

For our Local Issues segment: former serving police officer Shane Prior has stepped into the role of President of the QLD Police Union, following Ian Leavers departure. Feegs talks to Shane about the tough road ahead, with high turnover rates and heavy workload pressures affecting the police service currently.

Elsewhere on the show: An undisputed household name in Australian comedy – Merrick Watts joins Feegs ahead of his Brisbane Festival show ‘An Idiot’s Guide to Wine – Volume Two’. Merrick chats to Feegs about his personal transformation, cancel culture and what we can expect from this new hilarious show.

Riverfire will light up the Brisbane skies tonight, and Nine News’ Melissa Downes previews all the action with Feegs.

Former Wallaby, Red’s Fly Half and Stan Sports commentator Nick ‘Pickle’ Frisby joins to cover all the latest from the weekend’s action

PLUS Celebrity chef Adrian ‘Richo’ Richardson provides a recipe for Thai Chicken Curry that beats all the store bought options, with an accompanying papaya and green mango salad.
