Gen Z language explained

Shane Doherty

Gen Z has created an entirely new vocabulary that can be difficult to understand at the best of times.

Social researcher and Next Gen Expert Claire Madden told Shane Doherty on 4BC Summer Drive, “I think pop culture influences so much of this and with the internet age and social media, Gen Z are creating a language obviously quicker than we can keep up with.”

“Phrases and words are created at a record speed with a global youth culture and it kind of creates a sense that Gen Z are a tribe.”

“Us, older generations, we’re not in their tribe because they’re speaking a new language that we’re foreigners to and so it kind of creates this connectivity amongst them,” Ms Madden said.
